Welcome to Paya Bay! We are Roatan's newest and friendliest little resort. Our restaurant and rooms are nestled among a forest of sea palms and seagrape trees, atop one of the highest cliffs on the island. The views in all directions are spectacular. Guests have access to two beaches right down the slope from their rooms. A mostly unexplored section of the Great Mayan Reef (the second largest barrier reef on the planet) is less than a 100 yards away!
|
Our restaurant's menu features a variety of sea foods (fish, shrimp, lobster, and conch) which we are willing to prepare according to your wishes. Delicious beef, pork, and poultry dishes are also available. Your selection can be accompanied by one of our many delicious tropical blender drinks, fine wine, or one of the local Honduran brews.
|
At the Paya Bay Restaurant you'll enjoy some of the most delicious cuisine prepared on the island. The romantic atmosphere is highlighted by soft music and the soothing sound of waves crashing on the rocks below. Our high 'cathedral' ceilings are the talk of the entire island. Every seat in the restaurant has a view of the exhuberant tropical vegetation that surrounds it, as well as the beautiful Caribbean. Our rock wall is decorated with exotic tropical plants found only on the island. Dining at Paya Bay is truly a sublime experience!
The restaurant is open to the public and is a popular destination for guests from other resorts on the Island. If you are going to be staying at another resort, consider renting a car and coming to Paya Bay for a splendid meal.

There are TWO BEACHES for you to enjoy right down the slope from your room. You can also take part in a BOAT TOUR to one of the adjacent islands and cays. (Boat Tours are included in some Packages). You can SNORKEL to your heart's content... The second longest barrier reef in the world is a mere 100 yards from the beach. There is great HIKING to be found in the area surrounding the resort. Two of the highest peaks on Roatan are in our backyard. Or you may just want to RELAX in a hammock and enjoy the balmy sea breezes.
Two Beaches!
Go for a romantic walk on the 'Big Beach.' It is unlikely you'll run into anyone else. Or, better yet, be naughty at our very secluded and private 'Lil Bay Beach.' The water is always warm and inviting... DIVE IN!
Boat Tours
 |
Our Boat Tours are a great way to explore the nearby islands of St. Helene, Morat, and Barbareta. You'll wind through the Helene Canal, a natural canal stretching several miles through the mangrove jungle. Weather permitting, you'll also be able to visit the Pigeon Cays (pictured at left) and enjoy some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean! |
Snorkeling
| The Great Mayan Reef which starts in the Yucatan, continues through Belize, and extends into the Bay Islands lies about 100 yards from our beaches. Much of the reef in this part of the island has yet to be explored. You will encounter a dazzling array of fish and other sea creatures among the elkhorn, pillar, and brain coral. If you love coral reefs, there is a LOT of reef to explore at Paya Bay!

Follow the highway and stop at Camp Bay Beach for a swim at one of the best beaches on Roatan. The really adventurous may want to follow the road over the spine of the island to Port Royal. This harbour was once the stronghold of pirates and bucaneers and is exciting to explore. If you are really up for a challenge to may want to climb one of the peaks in our backyard (the going is rough--we say 'professionals only!'). |

Questions and Answers
| Do the hotel rooms have air conditioning, telephones, television, or a refrigerator (for beverages)? What are the electrical current and socket type? Is an adapter plug needed? | Because of the constant trade winds that flow through and cool them, we have found it unnecessary to use air conditioning in the rooms. The rooms are equipped with ceiling fans. In keeping with the 'getaway' theme we have also avoided TVs and phones in our rooms. Some rooms have refrigerators; all are supplied with ice. Water comes from our private well that taps into the Roatan Aquifer. This aquifer lies several hundred feet below the surface of the island. Water from this source is crystal clear and completely potable. Electric current is 110 volts with standard American fixtures, therefore no adapter is needed for US appliances.
| Is it preferable to partake of your full american plan or to arrange meals at yours and other local restaurants to have a variety? | Roatan is unique in that most of its resorts are located in their own bay or harbour and, as a result, are separated by some distance. Paya Bay is currently the only resort on the northeast end of Roatan. This idyllic isolation means that you and our other guests will have this little piece of paradise to yourselves. However, this also means that other resorts and restaurants are not readily accessible. Our recommendation is that you partake in our American Plan with all meals included.
| Is May/June a pleasant time? | Yes. The island sits in the midst of the trade winds which keep it constantly cool. The rainy season runs November thru January.
| Is the beach a swimming beach or very corally like in Belize? | The beaches at Paya Bay are natural (as opposed to man-made) swimming beaches. The sand is pulverized coral that has a texture similar to sugar. There are no sharp edges to drive into your feet. Swimming at Paya Bay is divine! |
